To reinstall the Automatic Updates service, follow these steps in this article -
You receive a "Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the
requested page" error message when you try to install an update
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;883614
You might need your XP CD.
If you need to reinstall the ActiveX controls (because they may have become
corrupt):-
Download this file and save to the desktop, then extract the files to a temporary
folder.
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6...gent20-x86.exe
Open the temp folder, right-click Wusetup.inf, and then click Install.
Reboot.
