[Crosspost to Windows Update newsgroup.]
In the future, *aways* reply to your original thread, please, Grandpa. For
now, stick with this thread.
For reference, here's your earlier thread:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...29ad9965fc54e5
When you first attempted to install IE7, had you also just installed WinXP
SP2?
In your successive attempts to install IE7, did you follow the instructions
on
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install TO THE LETTER?
Some information you can provide to help diagnose the issue(s):
1. Open Security Center via Start > Settings > Control Panel. What does
Security Center report for the status of (a) your anti-virus application,
(b) your firewall, and (c) Automatic Updates?
2. Open Add/Remove Programs via Start > Settings > Control Panel. Make sure
the Show Updates box is checked. Scroll down towards the very bottom of the
list. Write down the bottom-most four (4) instances of "Security Update for
Windows XP (KB123456)" and the installation date for each, then post this
information in a reply to THIS thread.
3. Please tell us if a Norton application (i.e., Norton AntiVirus, System
Work or Internet Security) had EVER been installed on the machine or if one
is installed now.
