Please post any questions concerning the WSUS Service Pack 2 Release
Candidate in the appropriate Microsoft Connect newsgroup, where I'll be
happy to help you investigate your issue.

No one here represents or works for Microsoft. We're all volunteers and
have busy lives outside of these newsgroups.

We do not support beta software in either of these newsgroups.

Sorry to disturb you. Get back to your busy little life. If anyone could
help I would greatly appreciate it.

Ironically, the *subject* of this message is severely misleading. After
having read the re-post into the MSConnect newsgroup, which was posted with
a more accurate subject line "Applied WSUS SP2 now the updates are not
applying at 100%" -- I see that the problem has nothing to do with
*downloading* at all, and may not even have anything to do with WSUS Service
Pack 2 at all!

For the sake of all users, I'm going to copy my post from the MSConnect
newsgroup here -- as I suspect this is a basic WSUS Administration issue.
The key is in the "example" provided, which I totally overlooked in the
original post.

> Example:
>
> Updates for Windows XP(KB920872) 71% Install(1/6)

This is not a downloading issue.. the question, misled by the subject line
in this thread, but accurately portrated in the MSConnect thread -- is about
the fact that only 71% of *clients* are reporting this update as
Installed/Not Applicable -- and the question goes to the status of the other
29% of the clients.

Here's my full reply from the MSConnect newsgroup:
========================================

Pick a client.
Verify that the client has successfully updated to the v7.4 WUA (RC) client.
(If not, that's your reason.)
Inspect the WindowsUpdate.log (Post the last detection for assistance.)
Is the client performing a successful detection?
Did the client detect KB920872 as NEEDED?
Did the client download KB920872?
Has the client actually had an opportunity to install the update and report
back yet?

Even though 71% of your clients are reporting the updates as
Installed/NotApplicable -- how many of your clients are reporting the update
as NEEDED? Of those reporting the update as NEEDED, what was their Last
Contact Date to the WSUS Server?

KB920872 is an optional update from September, 2006. It's only applicable to
XP SP2 systems. Do you have XP Service Pack 3 deployed to any of your
systems? Arguably this update should only be applied to systems actually
demonstrating the documented defective behavior, but that's an entirely
different discussion.

I note that you've only approved the update for one of your six target
groups.
Are ALL of your Windows XP SP2 systems contained in that one target group?
