I use windows xp on a desktop and I have this same problem. The usb is
directly plugged into the pc's usb port. I have tried the other ports on the
desktop and same result so I know it isn't the ports. Soft reset will not
help at all. Believe me that is the first thing I tried. I had a problem with
my sync port on my dell way back when and Beverely and Chris helped me with
it but it turned out to be my sync port was bad. I had the sync port replaced
in Feb. I am hoping that it isn't the sync port yet again. It is charging
correctly so I am hoping this isn't another lost cause.
