Stay away from the Microsoft "fixes" until you can check with a technician to
find out which one jammed up your USB ports. I suggest you obtain and install
GoBack, which will enable you to return your system to what it was PRIOR to
the Microsoft "fixes". That is a necessary step, since many (if not all)
recent "fixes" are NOT EVER ABLE TO BE UNINSTALLED. That's how Microsoft
wants it, so you have to use other means to maintain usability of your entire
PC.
If enough of us complain about these matters, perhaps Microsoft will stop
screwing up our systems just so we will be forced to use their products
exclusively.
ESPECIALLY in future, do NOT even "try" Microsoft OneCare. I did, and I had
to TOTALLY wipe out and re-install my system, because OneCare crippled my PC
so it would not work with my firewall or Norton Antivirus.
In any event, good luck!
