The port may have a problem, or there may be some driver confusion. If
you are using a laptop the port may be too low in power priority to be
receiving enough power to work properly. (Laptops usually provide only
one 500mA supply shared between all ports instead of the 500mA to each
port which is the official standard. This conserves the laptop battery.)
WPD stands for Windows Portable Device. It's the driver that allows you
to treat your CF and SD cards and USB sticks as a devices for Media
Syncing. It is also required for ReadyBoost to work. The driver for the
card reader is not correctly installed and hence you get this error.
Clean up your devices in Device Manager as follows:
1. Go to My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced System Settings. Go into
Environment variables and create a new System variable called
devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices. Set this to a value of 1.
2. Go into Device Manager. From the view menu, choose "Show hidden
devices". Because of the environment variable, you now see all devices
not in use.
3. Uninstall any "Universal Serial Bus controllers" not in use (greyed
out). You can also uninstall any storage volumes, storage volume shadow
copies, and disk drives which are not in use. You should see your SD
card reader in one of these areas.
Then plug your SD reader in again and see what happens.
