Patrick;
Essentially v5 is being installed randomly on computers set to
Automatic Update.
You can also get v5 simply by typing "v5" where "v4" is located.

I have been told that the info is in the User Agreement. I'm trying to get

Please give me a bit more time!

The v5stats.windowsupdate.microsoft.com url is where the new WU client sends
back events about scan, download, and install attempts. These events can be
sent either from Site or AU usage. The WU client runs in one of the shared
svchost processes.

You can use group policies to disable all access to Windows Update to
prevent this. But, of course, Microsoft recommends that you keep AU turned
on.

V4 did a similar thing, but the url and originating process was different.
