If you are still out there and haven't resolved this one.

Click start-> Run and type NET STOP WUAUSERV and click ok.
Then delete the contents of the WINNT\SoftwareDistribution folder.

Click start-> Run and type NET START WUAUSERV and click ok.

Try the update again.
