Hi, suhjonathan.

The problem is that stupid, non-informative - MISinformative! - error
message! :>(

The REAL problem is that Adobe refuses to update Flash to the 21st Century.
:>(

For the official line, go here:
Flash Player on 64-bit operating systems
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/000/6b3af6c9.html

I see that they've recently updated the appearance of that page, but it
still boils down to the same thing: Flash will NOT run in a 64-bit browser,
such as the 64-bit edition of IE8. But it will run fine in the 32-bit
edition of IE8, even in a 64-bit edition of Win7.

Win7 x64 comes with TWO versions of Internet Explorer 8. By default, the
32-bit edition runs when we click Internet Explorer. We can run the 64-bit
edition if we insist, and we can even change the Registry to run the 64-bit
edition by default.

But when we see that error message you quoted, there is no clue that the
problem is related to the "bitness" of the browser. So we are left to
perform our own wild goose chase, trying to find the clue that should - and
very easily could - be included in the error message, but is not. :>(

When you see that misdirecting error message, you know you are in the 64-bit
edition of IE. (Click Help | About to confirm; the 32-bit edition doesn't
say "64-bit edition".) Don't bother trying to download and install Flash;
you'll just get that stupid message again. So, just highlight the URL in
the Address Bar and Copy it; start the 32-bit edition of IE; Paste the URL
into the Address Bar and press Enter - and watch your video or whatever.

My laptop has been fine with IE until this morning when the Internet
Security Warning started coming up on every single webpage at least
three times. I do have a picture, but I'll also type what it says.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Internet Explorer Security (blue taskbar)

A website wants to open web content using this program on your
computer.

This program will open outside of Protected Mode. Internet Explorer's
Protected Mode helps protect your computer. If you do not trust this
website, do not open this program.

NAME: ADOBE FLASH PLAYER
PUBLISHER: ADOBE SYSTEMS INCORPORATED

Do not show me the warning for this program again (checkbox)

Then there are two buttons at the bottom: Allow or Don't allow
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I tried both of the buttons but this warning still comes up at least
three times everytime I click into a new IE page. I really need help
fast.
I tried uninstalling then installing Adobe numerous times to no avail.
The picture is the same except for the Name and the Publisher part. Just
change the name to Adobe Flash Player and the Publisher to Adobe Systems
Incorporated. Please help FAST!!!!
p.s. Ignore the red box in the picture!

Hi, suhjonathan.

You didn't even read the Adobe page that I gave to the link for, did you?

Flash NEVER worked in 64-bit IE - or any other 64-bit browser. In a 32-bit
browser in 64-bit Windows, yes. But not in a 64-bit BROWSER.

Flash just for some unknown reason crash??? And lastly, how can I use
the 32-bit IE??

Hi, suhjonathan.

Right-click on your IE icon and check its Properties. Specifically, what
Folder is in "Target"?

The two versions of IE8 are in:
32-bit version: C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
64-bit version: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

I can't guess how (or if) your icon's Target got changed from Program Files
(x86) to Program Files. But IF that happened, then the icon would start
64-bit IE, rather than 32-bit IE. Does your computer have TWO icons? And
maybe you clicked the wrong one this time? Click the 32-bit IE icon - or on
the Start menu - and see if Flash works there. Or Browse to it in Windows
Explorer and double-click it.

As I mentioned earlier, in IE8, click Help | About Internet Explorer. Does
the Version line say "64-bit Edition"? If it doesn't mention "bitness" at
all then you are running the 32-bit Edition, even in 64-bit Windows.

I've heard about Hijackthis but never used and and don't know anything about
it.

You are posting to the TechArena Forum - but that is NOT where I'm reading
and posting. That forum is simply forwarding your messages to the Microsoft
public newsgroup on the Microsoft Usenet server, where I am reading and
replying. If you'd like to see for yourself, just click here:

I did read the page. What I'm confused about is, this morning, just like
I've been doing for the last year, I clicked the IE icon and the yellow
warning just popped up! I can't even count how many times I;ve
double-clicked that icon. But the yellow warning never came up until
this morning! How can the icon just switch from 32-bit to 64-bit
automatically?? Is this a malware? Should I post the Hijackthis log??

Hey techarena moron! You may think you're posting to a forum, but in
reality you're posting to a Microsoft Usenet newsgroup. Now to be removed
from A$$HOLE MORON status, please quote who the FU@K your replying to!
Thank you for your support!
