In the hope of finding some fertile ground, I am returning to ask help with
two problems, after successfully installing Ubuntu on a VitualBox in my
Vista System (Home Premium, SP1):

1. The networking tool is unable to find my server (copper.net with dial-up)
to connect to the
internet.
2. It finds my printer (Lexmark x2600) and a driver, but in the end it will
not activate it.

Can anyone give me an idea how to solve my problem(s)?
Did post in an ubuntu forum without getting an answer so far.

TIA,

Harry.

Congrats on your success so far, Harry. I don't use virtualbox, I use
VMware server. But what I needed to do to get the networking working on
the virtual machine is to try either a 'bridged' connection, or to
install an addon in the virtual machine (for vmware it's called vmware
tools) and that would always help my network connections and my video,
smooth mouse movements, etc. Look through the settings on virtual box
and see if it has any similar settings and try those. Good luck!

Thank you for the kind words, Linus.
I made some progress and didn't quite get there yet, but eventually I will.
What's with this 'Gigaflop'? Trying to live up to his name, I suppose.
Thanks again for being 'a good sport'.

Harry.

Glad I could help. And sorry for the confusion, but I an Nina, not
Linus (that's just a quote in my .sig from the creator of the linux
kernel, Linus Torvalds). Alot of learning software I think is just
tinkering with it until you find what works. You might also consider
checking the documentation for VirtualBox.

Confusion was on my part, I should have noticed, sorry.
Didn't make much headway with the VMServer and the tools, 'cause the
installation is almost 40MB's large and what is a 'bridged connection'?

Did any of this work for you:
- Did you try to set it up using pppoeconf (or something like that)
- Also, remember to keep networking on when setting up the Virtual
Machine (or just enable it after setting it up)
- Try different settings with the virtual network adaptor in VirtualBox.
