| Like I said. The computers will not be ones used by the U.S. Department of Defense
| but as per the link that you supplied it states that only personal desktop computers
| used by the assigned US Korean Forces personnel for personal use. All military
| computers used for official U.S. Department of Defense communication through
| electronic media (computers ) will stay W2K,W2K3,XP,Unix.
| As far as the 30,000 that it states the actual number is around 3200. Service
| personnel get free software along with Operating Systems. One of the benefits that
| active Service personnel are entitled to

| Believe me I know and I confirmed the same today personally through my contact in
| the U.S. Department of Defense

Sorry Peter, you're WRONG ! Win2K was already banned from the GIG.

PACOM might be moving towards Vista now but there's a mandate for Vista by year's end.
As for 30K nodes. That's totally realistic.

I am setting there looking at all of this unfold. And I am telling you
that Vista is on the USAF base in the US that I have been on, with me
looking right at it and asking base personnel about it.

This man thinks I am making it up.

I'm not sure who thinks you're "making it up," but I can confirm that
you're correct.

In fact, the DoD's Standard Desktop Configuration (the way computers
_must_ be configured to be purchased) has specified Windows Vista
Enterprise, SP1, since at least July of last year. Further, all
computers within the US Air Force's Air Combat Command (i.e., the
overwhelming majority of USAF installations within the continental US
(CONUS)), with the rare - by computername & serial number - exception,
with advance approval, for those that absolutely must continue to run
legacy proprietary applications, or that do not meet hardware minimums
and cannot be economically replaced, will be upgraded to Vista by the
end of 2009.

You ain't making it up but lets make this clear...
If you "...have to go through it all again come 7/2009" then you must follow OPSEC. What
you see and how its done is *NOT* for public discussion.
The fact that the DoD is going Vista is public information. It *will* happen. It has
been madated. You even quoted an open source.
However... What equip't. or what processes a contractor must go through is not.

Capice ?

Yeah, I hear you. I got a couple of loud mouths that think they know
what is happening with the usual lip services.

Now that I think about it. They could be counter-intelligence spies for
another country.

I wouldn't put it past them. :-P

Man, I can't even leave the country on vacation without reporting to
someone.

The way I see it, they need to dump XP ASAP. It's wide-open to attack,
because no one is running as Limited-user. They are all admin users, and
MS needs to get XP off of the playing field and move on.

Nope. There are spooks in SCIFs watching what we do all the time :-)
And if you go OCONUS...

I have not learned what all the terminology and acronyms mean. I am just
know getting use to MAJCOM, and there are so many.

You're entitled to your opinion.

That is untrue. In fact, the USAF, at least, has had GPOs in place for
years to preclude such a scenario.

Huh? Sorry, but you seem to have "skipped a groove" here.

Why would you even toot your horn as loud as you do?
We know Vista is a lot better than some people would like it to be.
Put on your sun screen and enjoy the shine.
Otherwise you might present a problem for yourself and this Country.
