I'd vote for the hard drive. But also run a memory tester.
I had a hard-drive based mp3 player that wouldn't
boot when cold. Let it warm up for a minute and it worked fine.
I have a laptop with a bad memory location when it's cold.
I swapped the memory simms to place the bad bit at the top of memory.
By the time the bit gets accessed, it's working. That took me a LONG
time to diagnose. By the time the memory tester got to that bit
it was no longer busted.
