Check Accessories/System tools/System Information and see how much ram is
recognized.
If all the installed ram is not recognized power down the unit and make sure
ram sticks or laptop sodimm are seated properly.
If that does not solve the problem you can try the Microsoft memory
diagnostic but if you are not getting random system freezes that may not
work.
In a desktop it is easy to boot the system with just one ram stick until you
find the defective one, if that is the problem.
If a laptop sodimm is simply not working the solution is . . .
