In an attempt to bring this back on topic, this in a small precursory way is
coming in Windows 7

There it takes the form of logging in to Windows using a biometric
fingerprint reader ie no typing (or speaking) involved; also eventually
being required to use a biometric fingerprint id when accessing particular
websites eg Facebook.

So I suppose that theoretically, as you suggest, you could easily envisage a
jump from this to a similar biometric device that monitors brain waves - eg
no entry if you're over the alpha wave limit, or caught emitting patterns
indicative of thoughts that have been censored by the Orwellian Thought
Police.

-"Mr X, we've checked your thoughts record, and you were caught dreaming
about Miss Y on 12th May at 4:32 am. How do you plead?"
-"Er..er..it wasn't me guvnor, it was a Trojan"

Historically / theologically I understand that this also culminates in the
reign of the AntiChrist and not being able to buy or sell unless you have
the mark of the beast on your forehead. So it may not be such an ideal
vision of the future as you might anticipate.

Mark,

Reminding people that they should stay on topic for the newsgroup is hardly
censorship or "Orwellian Thought Police", I have no desire to see this
newsgroup degenerate any further with more off topic posts and irrelevancy
as peddled by various posters (no need to name them) . There is no need to
reply with statements about free speech or anything else around the fact you
said your original post was off topic - the solution is simple if you want
to post off topic then do it elsewhere, go paddle in the shallow end of the
gene pool in some other newsgroup or forum but this is a peer to peer
support newsgroup for the specific product Windows Vista, not Windows 7,
Ubuntu or random posts about a life without speech.
(I have no need to think about a life without speech as close friend of mine
is profoundly deaf and mute so I have an acute understanding of their life
without speech)

Why people have such a hard time adapting to simple rules is beyond me.
If the need arises to express one's thoughts, there are blogs and other
sites available, but somehow they construe their purpose to be fitting.
Thank you for trying to 'keep it clean'.

Harry.

In this case the word "general" is attached to "Vista", not its universal
meaning.
Let's keep it in context! <H>.

Mike B, it's time there were a English-speaking NNTP Windows 7 newsgroup,
so we can give voice to our eugenically 'deviant' genetic makeups in a more
appropriate setting.

One such Italian newsgroup is all very well, but the since the majority of
folks on here don't speak Italian, nor are members of the Club of Rome,
quite frankly it aint much use.

Be a hero and get on to your pals at MS to help give the ordinary people
back their voice.

Oh look a selective out of context edit - not exactly furthering your case
here with childish name calling.

What part of windows.VISTA are you having a problem understanding?

Ah, name calling, how mature of you and such a way to win people over to
your point of view; I don't think so.

Since you have absolutely no knowledge of my relationships I very much doubt
you are in any position to make any statement about it.
I have also never encouraged anyone to use "speech recognition apps like
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Pro" and obviously it would be totally useless on
my friend you is UNABLE to speak - or did you not understand the use of the
phrase "deaf and mute"?

I guess you were unable to communicate via text what you were trying to say,
but frankly; if you do think you can "help" then I suggest you take it to a
more appropriate forum for discussion around the issues and technical help
for the speech impaired community.
try
www.nad.org or one of the other many bodies who really do work to help
people like my friend

Hi Jon,

I think we discussed this elsewhere, but the use of the Microsoft hosted
communities forums looks like it is becoming the preferred medium to replace
the classic NNTP newsgroups long term, as they offer a significant number of
perceived advantages over classic newsgroups, such as easier access for the
general public who are more familiar with the web/forum world as opposed to
setting up newsreaders. Also the communities add additional functionality
to the threads such a voting and feedback etc (I know there is some of that
here if you use Windows Mail as your reader but in general).
So there may be a set of Windows 7 newsgroups after RTM this fall/autumn,
but for now there is a very active set of "groups" where MSFT staff do
actively participate accessed by the Microsoft forums at
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...tegory/w7itpro

Ok, thanks for the info Mike. Hopefully, as you say, there'll be some
newsgroups in a few months time.
