1.) You are not out of luck to to the oxymoron of "march of progress."
2.) Here's how you set up a dialup networking connection:
Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Set up a connection or network
> Set up a dialup connection
After that, you have to know your username/password for the ISP you're
trying to connect to, as well as the phone number you're trying to dial.
Now, if you're trying to create a shortcut to an already existing dialup
connection.... that's even easier.
Go to Control Panel > Network Connections. (Please keep in mind that I have
my control panel setup to be in "Classic View")
Right click on your already existing dialup connection, then create a
shortcut.
Of course, it will give you an error message of "Windows cannot create a
shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop
instead?"
Your answer will be 'yes.'
