Re: Window live onecare won't start

I had a similar problem, except that I also had Windows Defender installed.
After the upgrade, even with the help of the Windows Live OneCare support
people, I was unable to install Windows Live OneCare 1.5 beta (the only
version available at the time). I ended up completely uninstalling Defender
as well, which crippled several of the OS functions. So, I ran the Setup
disk and performed an "upgrade" install from Vista to Vista, after I had
removed all traces of Windows Live OneCare. Defender came back (it is part
of the OS), and everything seems fine at the moment, although I still
haven't tried to install Windows Live OneCare yet, because I understand the
RTM will be released within the week, and I don't want to take any chances.

I believe the problem began with having both Windows Live OneCare and
Defender installed on XP prior to doing the update. The Upgrade Advisor did
mention to uninstall any AV programs, but nothing about Defender. At this
point, I'm not entirely sure what steps I took prior to doing the upgrade,
but I suspect it may have been Defender that caused the issue.
