Thanks for your help mfenech. Yes I am getting the 0x80240020 error i
windowsupdate.log. I tried Savage's post but that didn't work either.


What did work, however, was installing the Client for Microsof
Networks and rebooting.

We have that uninstalled here as it messes with our Netwar
environment. Good thing I spent the time trying everything else befor
this :rollseyes:

After fighting with this problem on several systems for several hours,
it seems most of the time to be a problem with the registry folder

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify

Save the attached text file as whateveryouwant.reg. Then double click
the .reg file to merge the contents into your registry. Restart the
system and retry windows updates. This registry info comes from an XP
Pro registry, but it has worked for me on both XP Home and Pro systems.
Those are the only ones I've tried it with so I can't be sure about the
effects on a Win 2K OS. Hope this can clear everything up.
