Hi

I hope Rick is watching this, I usually post on the web but I cannot log on
tonight and I need to post my progress.

I have run all of the processes at www.elephantboycomputers.com/page 2
and have made no progress at all.

It took so long for me to get back because that is how long it takes to
complete the process.

The various scans found different minor malware but nothing significant, I
deleted or deactivated all files according to the recommendations, while I
have learned a lot it did not help with my specific problem.

Some new information, in an effort to find out what is happening I tried to
look in event viewer but got an error box
"Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is available..

I went to Windows event collector and Event log services and got this error
box

"Windows could not start the Windows Log/Event collector service on local
computer" (respectively)
Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.

Can you please let me know what to do from here.

regards

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Click start and type CMD, then right click the entry that appears in the
menu and choose 'run as administrator'. From the command line, run:

net start eventlog

Post back with the system's response.

Hi Daniel,

Run services.msc from the start/search line, scroll down to the Windows
Event Log and double click it. Click on 'start the service'. Also go to the
Recovery tab, change the first and second failures to restart the service.

Rick

I explaines in my previous post what happens when I tried to start Event
Collector
and Event log, although I was not very clear about it, but I tried again
after changing the
first ansd second failure to restart, I still get the message

"Windows could not start the Windows Log/Event collector service on
local computer" (respectively)
Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Normally, those functions do not have any dependencies, so that error
message makes no sense. That's why I had you try changing the failure
options. Try the dependency tab for those services, does it show either as
having one?

Rick

Since I came home and fired up the PC it has all gone south with un-attended
reboots and programs not opening so I formatted and reinstalled, after
saving required data.

All is well now and hopefully I will not need any more help, on this issue
at least.
