Re: windows update hangs on checking for the lastest version of window

I have same problem. Tried everything suggested.
Nothing resolved the problem. Can anyone help further?

I have the same problem. Around when SP2 came out, my autoupdate stopped
working (never downloaded or installed SP2) no matter how many times I set it
to auto. Manual update sends me to a page that is forever checking for the
latest version of Windows.

If that didn't work either, and you have Windows XP SP2 installed,
check that the WuWebControlClass is enabled in Internet Explorer
