Hello all,
I am running xp home with sp2. When I try to get updates, they come down to
the machine but all fail trying to install ("The following updates failed to
install" error message) I was able to manually install windows intaller 3.1
and one other update manually. Is there a work around for this? it is my
daughter's computer and I would rather the updates come down automatically
instead of waiting until I have the time to manually install them. My other 2
windows xp pro machines update normally.
Regards,
Ron

I don't have an answer but have had exactly the same problem with all updates
for about a week now. Help anybody!

I found a solution for this problem.
Start regedit and goto
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\
Look in the Notify folder. If the SensLgn sub folder is missing from the
Notify folder, you will have to get it from a pc that is getting windows
updates ok. From a working pc that has the same OS , export the SensLgn
folder to a registry file (ie wusfix.reg) . Import the reg file into the
registry of the pc not installing Windows updates. Also, if you see a
Notify_Disabled folder under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\, delete it.
Reboot and test windows updates. You should be good to go.
