I have the same problem for some programs, one is Outlook 2003 that abended.
I'll describe what happens with Outlook, but the same goes for other
programs as well.
After a safe restart that did not succed I was asked to run "repair/reinstall"
Windows installer was running for at least 30 minutes and then I got a new
message telling me that Windows installer is not responding, Retry?.
The installer was running for another hour with no result but a lot of disk
activity.
So I tried to stop the installer from the task manager.
Wath happened then was that the all the icons on the desktop disappered and
the PC was more or less dead.
Going to the command windo via the task manger I ther entered 'shutdown' and
after a minute or so I got a screen with the logging of screen.
The PC was standing like this overnight and it was still 'logging off' in
the morning.
Is it a problem with the application, Outlook, Windows installer, Vista
explorer or something else?
