I am also getting the same problem and have looked through this forum but
cannot see an answer. If I cannot get this to run where can I findout if my
hardware and software will work with Vista?

I also have the same error message, I already bought Vista Premium and I
think I will return it if cannot run the advisor, will I be able to install
Vista without problem...I dont think I will take the chance unless somebody
tell me witout a doubt that I will not have any problem installing Vista.

If you really need that assurance, don't do it!

I have the same problem, I found .net framework 2.0 and installed it, with no
change in the problem. I have down loaded and re-installed Vista Advisor 4 or
5 times nothing seems to work to get past this problem.
Have looked all over the web and am surprised there are not more people with
this problem.

I'll keep a look here for any fixes anyone posts.

I had the same problem, fixed by downloading the .net framework 2.0 package
from Microsoft site and choosing to repair, once this completed the advisor
ran just fine.

I have .net framework 2.0 installed and still have the problem. I called MS
support, they said since I have a Dell 8400 with OEM xp I need to pay for
support, or go to Dell for support.

I called Dell, since I am out of warranty, they want me to pay for the
support. I found that Dell has a "Dell readiness advisor tool V16" I tried
that as well, no luck still have the same problem with both advisors, only
change is the file name, VistaUpgradeAdvisor.exe for MS and vat.exe for Dell.

I am checking next all my drivers and bios, will let you know if anything
works.

I also had .net framework installed but downloaded again and was given the
option to remove or repair, chose repair and that solved the problem.

Hope you get your problem fixed.

My problem was that the upgrade advisor would lock my cpu @100 %, never
finish and I would have to reboot. Your readers may interested in knowing
that a Vista forum reader suggested repairing Net framework 2.0 which I tried
and did not work. I then disabled my firewall (ZA Pro) and my antivirus (PAV
2007 ) and ran the advisor and it finshed very quickly.

Found my problem, I needed to remove both .net framework v2 and v1.1 and
reinstall both. That fixed my problem.

Hello, I have a Dell 8400, Dell states they actually don't support th
8400 for Vista. But here is the work around that made the instal
happen for me.

1. Got to Dell and download the A09 Bios Upgrade.
2. If you have purchased the upgrade for XP Home. Load it and make SUR
you have updated every last update there is,,,including all the securit
patches and SP3. Make SURE they are all loaded. The easiest way is t
visit and revisit windows update until it is clear when you run th
installer.
3. Download and Install Netframe 2.0 and then revisit win update fo
the update and patches for that.

I did the install as mentioned on May 15, 2008, It went without
single glitch!

Since you have XP Home installed, simply catch all the updates an
netframe and you should be able to run the advisor.

You will find lots of hardware is not supported. For example. AT
Video--They have new Vista Drivers, So does Creative.

THE BIG PROGRAM THAT IS NON COMPATABLE IS ''''SONIC DLA""" Uninstalle
and DO NOT REINSTALL IT.

My 8400 came with 3.4 Processor, 1Gig Ram, ATI Radeon 300 Video
Sblaster sound.

I have not had a glitch yet,,,,, It is rock solid and works fine.

Good Luck

Mik
