(Cross-posting to Windows Update group. Likely problem with processes at Windows Update / automatic updates).
(This note contains enough relevant info on Mary's issue. The IE link to Windows Update, [but W U log shows other apparent issues].)

Hi Mary,

Your log has a mix of info from both Automatic Updates, as well as attempts to Windows Update website.
Review your current settings for Automatic Updates. It seems as if it is (was) set for multiple checks per day (?)

For the time being (until after your issue is resolved) turn off Automatic Updates & also rename your WindowsUpdate.log

Is this a home pc, or, is it in a company network setting?

There are 3 Error code notations in the Windows Update log.
A) 80072ee7 error with Automatic Updates:

2006-02-24 22:50:58 1168 60c Misc WARNING: Send failed with hr = 80072ee7.
2006-02-24 22:50:58 1168 60c Misc WARNING: SendRequest failed with hr = 80072ee7. Proxy List used: <(null)> Bypass List used : <(null)> Auth Schemes used :
<>
2006-02-24 22:50:58 1168 60c Misc WARNING: WinHttp: SendRequestUsingProxy failed for <
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6/windowsupdate/redir/wuredir.cab>. error 0x80072ee7
2006-02-24 22:50:58 1168 60c Misc WARNING: WinHttp: SendRequestToServerForFileInformation MakeRequest failed. error 0x80072ee7

My suggestion: 80072EE7 is a DNS name resolution problem.
This remedy-attempt may be tried:
1. Clear Internet Explorer temporary internet cache. Then close your browser.

2. If you have Win2000 or XP:
Go to Start > Select RUN > type in
CMD <enter>

type in "ipconfig /flushdns" (without the quotes) (This will flush your local cache of the DNS )

type in
net stop wuauserv <Enter-key>

Go to Windows Explorer.
Look on your system drive (usually C ) and look at the Windows folder name. Like Windows or WINNT.
Modify following as appropriate.
If your Windows folder is C:\Windows. Look at this folder
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

If you find files in there, delete them. That folder is where files are stored from W U downloads.

Go back to Command prompt window.
type in

EXIT <Enter-key>

See also the MS Windows Update Troubleshooter - "When searching for available updates on the Update site, you see the 0x80072EE7 error"
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...cleid=22&ln=en
(which advises review of entries in your Hosts file -- to insure no entries are in there for Windows Update are in there)
Applications like web accelerators, Tweak Master DNS, Spyblockers, etc.,
can add static IP entries for the Windows Update site into your HOSTS file,
which cause Windows Update to fail.

B) Later error from Windows Update log.
2006-02-25 11:31:50 1144 490 Misc WARNING: WinHttp: IsFileToBeDownloaded failed with 0x80004004

C) Apparently part of same session as B
2006-02-25 11:31:50 1144 490 Agent WARNING: WU client fails to call back to search call {ED00A0E3-90B5-4C5D-A5CE-0C8467F7E735} with error
0x8024000c

Mary, do the suggestions & cleanup noted above, then just 1 time, try Windows Update (online) website again.
Then post back with details. If you get an Error, post back here -- an extract from log just for that session.

Hi Maurice,

I’m sorry it took so long to reply. Things happened to my computer that was
unrelated to my original topic.

After I read your email (a few days ago), I shut down my computer and it
never started up again. I called Gateway; they had to send me a new Hard
Drive, because mine went bad.

Well I’m up and running again and just wanted to let everyone who tried to
help fix my computer, how appreciative I am.

A special thanks to you Maurice for all the time you must have spent
analyzing my log. You are wonderful.

Thank you all so very much.
Mary
