I recently upgraded from an ipaq 2215 running WM2003 (and ActiveSync 3.8 on
the desktop) to an ipaq hx2795 running WM5 (and ActiveSync 4.1 on the
desktop). I've seen a limit on the amount of information in a task that
ActiveSync will sync for each device but it it is definitely lower for WM5.
After upgrading to WM5, many tasks were truncated that were not previously
truncated. What first seems to happen as the task size grows is that
Activesync "silently" removes any formatting you've added to the task note.
When the size reaches around 10kb, it then truncates and adds the message you
observed. Unfortunately, you can't search for the word "truncated" to find
these modified tasks on the device. This used to work in WM2003 and made it
easier to deal with the limitation. The only way I've found to deal with it
in WM5 is to place large task notes in a Mobile Word document that gets
sync'd. My guess is that Microsoft dumbed down the ability to sync tasks
since they are moving the OS more toward the mobile phone mass market where
it's probably not noticed.
