Are you saying that when people reply to a message that you sent it is
going to the wrong account?

One of several things can be going on:

1) Look at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, General. The Reply
address there will be used by people when replying to message sent by
that account. If the Reply address is empty, as it often is, then the
E-mail address above will be used which becomes the From address in
message sent via that account.

2) You sent to them using a different account than you thought. Look a
the Sent Items folders for your two accounts to see which one has the
messages that you sent. When you send a message and you have more than
one mail account, there is a FROM drop down box in the message
composition window showing which account will be used. If you folder
focus is in any mail account, that account will show there. You can
change the account before sending.

3) On one of the mail servers you've either set to forward messages to
the other account or one account is set to grab messages from the other
account.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your help.
I am pretty baffled here. I am looking at my windows live hotmail options box.
It says I am currently signed in.
It says I can receive mail from these accounts
(thats not my real addy btw), Last check successful

It also says you can send mail from these accounts

(default from address)

waiting for verification.

So I resend verification but it never shows up any where!!
I check back to hotmail showing

inbox = 0
junk= 22
drafts=0
sent=0
deleted=5

jay - ddt3 (3)

I check those three mails and they are to my account!!
So somethings getting through but not my verification request!
I am going nuts here- - any ideas?

BTW I dont have any forwarding and I dont understand about "grab the message"
thanks.
Stuart.

You are asking a Hotmail question and this is the Windows Live Mail
newsgroup.

You are trying to 'grab' messages from a pop account into Hotmail.

Gary,
I am asking about windows live mail which I set up on windows 7.
My first post said that didnt it?

"You are trying to 'grab' messages from a pop account into Hotmail"
Can you explain that please?

The only reason I am involved with hotmail is because windows live mail is
where I want my mail to be and "Hotmail" is where it keeps going and I want
to stop it from doing that!
Can you advise how I do that?

Thanks.

WLMail will receive email from each account that you setup.
What you describe says that you have consolidated some accounts by either
having mail forwarded or having an account get (grab, retrieve,...) email
from another account.
WLMail cannot change the settings to forward or consolidate email. You have
to login to each account and change the settings online.

Appologies as you are not Gary
OK. as I dont seem to be getting anywhere I have deleted the email addresses
from the Hotmail account and hope they never appear there again!
I have removed them from the windows live mail programme also and intend to
re -introduce them in the hope this works!
If I need to can I remove windows live mail from windows 7 altogether and
start again ?
I am temporarily using my windows mail account with my regular email and at
present it seems to work ok.

Thanks in anticipation.
Stuart.

srt,

Based on your earlier response on what you saw in the Hotmail Options in the web interface regarding Send and Receive here's what
those Options mean.

Send and receive mail from other e-mail accounts:
- This section shows your 'currently signed in' Hotmail address e.g.

You can receive mail from these accounts:
- this section shows any email address that you have added to pull mail from another pop3 capable email account ***into**
Hotmail's Inbox or if properly configured **into** another user created Hotmail folder. Ron referred to this as 'grab message', the
correct term is Pop3 Aggregation. Aggregation in the sense that you can 'collect' mail from a different email account. Up to 3 or 4
other
pop3 accounts can be aggregated.
- Hotmail automatically aggregates(collects/grabs) these messages on a routine basis. No effort is required from the Hotmail
account holder.
Note: If an additional email address is present in this section...then mail from that other email account is being delivered
into Hotmail. If this account is not configured(each account added has an edit option) to leave messages on the server, then the
message will only exist in Hotmail(and subsequently delivered to the Hotmail account in WLM) and explains why all your mail is
being delivered to your Hotmail account.

You can send mail from these accounts:
- this section shows your current Hotmail address(usually the default) and any other addresses that you've added. This permits you
when composing a message to have a choice to send the message from your Hotmail account or another 'added' account.

Since you have removed(deleted in your words) the additional accounts in Hotmail's Options, your mail from all recipients should
now go to the correct email address for the Hotmail account or the other email account.

Note: That when removing an optional account in the Hotmail web interface, it may not be immediate since it may take awhile for
Hotmail to update its end, scrub the servers etc..
<qp>
After you say, "Delete", we start scrubbing our servers to make sure it's really deleted. We've got a lot of servers so it can
take a while
</qp>
I.e. Continue to monitor both accounts in WLM for incoming mail, send a few test messages..it should be obvious when functionality
for each account as a separate entity is achieved.

Winston,
many thanks for that. I think I understand the points about the additional
accounts in hotmail.
I have deliberately left the accounts alone for the past several hours and
will not reactivate them on Hotmail. To be honest I don't recall activating
any email address on Hotmail as it is seldom used by me. I do have other
email accounts which I have and do still use via "windows mail" but since I
moved onto windows 7 I entered them on "windows live mail" which seemed fine
to begin with but I then latter discovered the issue with them being picked
up by Hotmail!
That was my problem and I still don't understand how that occurred.
To be sure I will monitor of course but hope to use the "windows live mail"
as I did and do with "windows mail".
Thank you for your assistance and time.
Regards.

Stuart.

srt,
Hope it works out for you.

Unfortunately, while odd things have happened in Hotmail since inception, the only way I know of a adding an account is via the
Hotmail options. Afaik, Hotmail doesn't have the ability to start 'aggregation' without user input.
Some say there's always a first for anything, your situation may or may not have been just that.

Once separate delivery is assured, you shouldn't have any issues with setting up both accounts in Windows Live Mail(provided the
correct server is entered <g>).

Good luck!
