Viruses and other malware that gets on an unprotected computer can
cause downtime and worse.
Find out if there is a specific reason you should not have SP-2.
It is possible some software has a known issue with SP-2 but at this
late date, the software manufacturer should have fixed it.
More than likely the tech just is not knowledgeable as you think.
When installing a Service pack, start by backing up all important
date, something you are probably doing regularly anyways.
then pick a time where the computer can be free for maximum amount of
time.
You will probably need less than an hour for the actual installation,
but having more time available can help if you need the extra time for
unexpected issues.
