When I got the update and installed the new Windows Explorer 7, the mail
button was not on the toolbar. However I went in and customized it to appear.
Now whenever I'm online and wish to check my email - I hit the "read mail"
button and I'm automatically disconnected. A new connection window will pop
up. When I reconnect my dial up speed is greatly decreased. I don't know why
that would happen? What can I do to fix the problem with this button on my
toolbar besides removing it?

Presuming you are using OE -

Open OE -
Go to Tools / Options - select Connection.

See Internet Connection Settings - Does Outlook Express share your Internet
Connection settings with Internet Explorer?

If not, Change it.

In Control Panel / Add & Remove / Set Program Access and Defaults -
Is OE selected as your default email?

I only guessed that Outlook Express might be your default Mail Client. Is
it?
