yesterday I received several attachments in Windows mail and was able to
open them and print out the attached .doc which was written in a microsoft
word program.
Today.....when I try to open the same document\attachments it is a BLANK page.
'Microsoft Office Word'
"This file could not be found
Try one of the following
*check spelling of document'
*try a different file name'
Plus.....I keep getting a message that I have 'unsent' email and would I
like to send it......WHEN I check to see what is in the 'outbox' the message
is blank??

1. That's a known issue that is affecting some who installed IE8.
One workaround is to uninstall IE8, which reverts you back to IE7.
Even without uninstalling IE8 you can make it work for all but TXT and
JPG attachments by doing the following:

Right-click on the shortcut that you use to open Windows Mail.
Select Properties. In the field labeled 'Start in' change the existing
value to %UserProfile%. Click OK. Restart Windows Mail and try opening
attachments.

If you decide to uninstall IE8 instead, see:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700

If you don't want to do either of the above, another option is to upgrade
your email program to Windows Live Mail: http://download.live.com/wlmail

2. Delete all messages in the Outbox.

[Crosspost to IE General]

Have you installed IE8?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
IE8?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

Is "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Vista (KB969897)"
listed in Installed Updates?

Just asking for now!! Do NOT use such a Restore Point yet!! => Do you have
an available Restore Point which predates the install of IE8?

NB: Uninstalling IE8 (cf. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700) should
resolve the behavior but you should not have encountered it in the first
place if IE8 was installed properly.

Yes. I have a 'Restore' point that pre-dates IE8. I have Trend Virus Internet
Protection.
Do you recommend that I uninstall IE8?

Thanks so much for all the 'help' and suggestions.
Yesterday, I when I opened any 'attachements', all I had was a blank
page...( this is the same attachment that I had previously opened and were
readable'.....
I notified the writer of the attachements and was able to OPEN them!!!

But when I received a notice that 'someone' had responded to my call for
help...
and clicked on the link......a Blank Page appeared??

If the behavior no longer persists, no, unless you find that you dislike the
new version.

Explain what the above means, please?

If you're referring to the email notification that I'd replied to your
thread, what you encountered is a longtime, well-known bug when using the
web-interface to access this newsgroup. I'd recommend accessing this and
all other MS newsgroups via your default newsreader (i.e., Windows Mail)
instead:

Should you decide to go back to IE7, don't do it via Restore.
Use the Microsoft recommended method:
