I have a 2 GB Optima Attache that works fine for ReadyBoost on my older Dell
Inspiron that was upgraded from XP to Vista. I jusy bought a new Toshiba
Satellite with Vista Home pre-loaded, and now Vista is saying that the drive
is too slow. Ideas?

Thanks,

John

Does it say Drive, or USB Port, too slow?

If it works on your older Dell, but does not work on your new Toshiba...
well... hmm.

Have you tried different USB ports on the Toshiba? It still works when you
bring it back to the Dell?

I'm replying on a Dell D620. All the basic USB drivers are from Microsoft.
Might want to check if any of the USB drivers are from Toshiba. I'd look for
deltas between the two computers, driver-wise. Have you called Toshiba
support?

You might try using a POWERED HUB with the laptop to get the
drive to work.... My 2G Sansdisk Flash drive works fine using
ReadyBoost in my P205-6267 Toshiba Laptop. Or get a faster
drive.

It says "This device does not have the required performance characteristics
for use in speeding up your system"

Tried all 4 ports, no luck.

Still works on the 2 year old Dell and not the now 4 month old Toshibia (I
bought it new -- just this model was introduced 4 months ago by my research).

Haven't tried Toshiba support -- thought I would poke around here first
before spending my time on hold

I will check the drivers...

Thanks!

Why would a faster drive matter? It works fine on one computer running Vista,
but not another. I will try the powered hub idea...

My Sat is A215-S7437. Maybe a problem running AMD vs Intel?

Thanks!

Glad to attempt to help... sometimes it works, sometimes "not so much."

I saw the reply downstream suggesting a powered hub. I would think that
should not be the issue. (Although, it -might- address the issue, it
wouldn't really "fix" the issue. Meaning, if it -did- work, well, time to
return the Toshiba laptop.)

Waiting to hear back on your driver comparison.

A laptop might have a weaker setup than a Desktop, especially on the
power end.... and the speed of the drive could be marginally close.

Sorry -- that was in the subject line, which you cannot see the line until
you reply to the thread... BOTH computers are laptops.

I figured out the problem though. Going to USB Drive properties in the
device manager menu, you can select to optimize for performance or optimize
for removal. The Removal radio button was selected so I just clicked the
speed one, rebooted and viola! the drive works for ReadyBoost.

Thanks for all the input!
