ReadyBoost used to work but now it does not

I have several enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost USB memory sticks of different
brands and sizes, and I have three machines running Vista Home Premium. All
the memory sticks work in two of the three machines, and they are desktops. I
have a new laptop and one of the memory sticks used to work in my laptop but
now it doesn't and I cannot find out why.
I have run the net start ???hwdetection (I forgot the exact command) but
that didn't help either. The ready boost service is running as well.
So why doesn't the ReadyBoost work with any USB memory sticks any more? I am
not prompted with the option of using the USB stick upon insertion into the
laptop but I am prompted to use the option of ReadyBoost on my desktops, and
the Autoplay is configured to "on".
I've read through most of the threads on this subject here but nothing I've
found has answered my question. So any intelligent information would be
extremely appreciated.

Thank you for the response, and I should have mentioned it in my original
thread, but I have done that on all them, along with reboots as well,
restarting the Ready Boost service as well.

It could be a power related issue, do you have any other USB devices
running at same time? UnPlug the USB devices properly. REBOOT
and then try your sticks.
