Can anybody, who knows, tell me what the real situation is with the RTM of
Vista. I downloaded a copy via Internet. If you install it without a number
it gives you 30 days to activate. If you use that fake number it gives you 3
days to activate. If you try the crack it will obviously take you back to RC2
or so with its limitations. Can one use the RTM and buy a number from MS when
it becomes available ? Are the RTM's on MSDN the same than the ones from the
Internet ? regards

RTM is not available for download except for a select few and most of them
are major Microsoft partners.

So unless you downloaded from a legitimate source, no one can really answer
your questions.
If your source is legitimate, ask the person responsible for it or your
Microsoft representative.

RTM will probably be available to MSDN this Friday.

The "crack"does not take you back to RC2, it justs lets you activate it
using your RC2 key.

Would you hand your computer to the next person who walked by on the street
and let that person do whatever they wanted to do to it?

In effect that's what you've just done.

No matter what assurances you have gotten from the person who gave you the
copy, what you have is an illegal copy of Vista. It may be legitimate or it
may be full of viruses and worms and such.

The rest of your questions are both silly and immaterial given this fact.

No. The RTM's that will be posted on MSDN will not be hacked with beta
files, will be verified by MS to be true RTM copies.

Once you install, you have 30 days to activate, no difference there. The
difference, if you get it from MSDN you will also get a valid product key
that won't cause Vista to expire after a period of time.

And causes your copy to expire, just like RC2.

True - But since the hack simply involves replacing two files there is no
reason that before 6/1/07 one can't reverse it be reverting to the original
two files and use a legit ProdID key to re-activate.

Richard, you are jumping the gun ! There are many copies of the RTM on the
net. The Torrents and Rapidshare is full of it. Surely, it must come from
the inside of Microsoft. The copy I have works perfectly. It has no virii.
It has a one month activation. Surely we have a right to play around with it
without being accused of dishonesty. We have the whole of the first half of
next year to buy the Software if we want it.There are no added files. I have
not tried to crack it.I cannot understand why you guys are always looking
for crooks. The crook is at Microsoft. If you cannot give advice in a
positive manner, then please SHUT UP !
