I have an AMD64 processor with hardware enabled DEP
(while running SP2). Was having problem with the endless
boot*crash*reboot cycle. In my case the problem was
caused by a software package called "IP Insight"
(specifically the IPVNMON.SYS driver it loaded at
startup). IP Insight is a utility that internet ISP's
use to monitor quality of connection. This will affect
any AMD64 system but MIGHT also affect Intel systems
that, while they don't have hardware DEP, do have a
version of software DEP added by SP2. Resolution was to
boot into safe mode and either deactivate DEP by
modifying the boot.ini file (poorer solution) or removing
the IP Insight software. Your internet connection should
still run fine, it'll just be harder for the ISP to track
down a service issue if your connection has problems.
