We have a Dell server running w2k8 for about a year. There is a setting
"Receive buffers" under Advanced of the Intel 1000 PT NIC. For some reason
it was set at 256. Checked a couple w2k8 Dell server the setting is at 750.

what's the default setting for w2k8?

I can't find the setting under w2k3. Is there a registry so I can check its
size?

What's the max. size?

How is the buffer used? Is it for read or write or both?

How to determin the proper size based on the server performance? it's our
main file server with user's romaing profiles and home directories. 2000
users.

Thanks.

Check the Dell support site to see what the best practices are for your
situation. If you don't find any info, ask your sales rep or call tech
support. If you're teaming the NICs, that might have an affect on the
settings to use.
