Good Day To Everyone!!!,

I just reinstalled my XP Pro Machine and it receives the 0x8ddd0004 error
when searching for updates at windows update. If I could just download and
Install SP2 without Windows Update I bet that would fix the problem. Any
know of a fix or does anyone know a MS page that has a download just for SP2?

Many Thanks,

RP

Download for the full Windows XP Service Pack 2 (also for standalone computers)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Service Pack 2 information
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/xpsp2.htm
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spackins.htm
http://www.windowstalk.org/sp2.htm

With regard to your error in Windows Update –

1. Make sure you are logged in as an Administrator (if you are not the
Administrator, then log in as an Administrator and try Windows Update again).

2. Make sure your firewall is not blocking the Update site and check any pop
up stopper programs.

3. Now check in IE tools\manage add-ons (Win XP SP2 only) making sure that
WuWebControlClass is enabled. (Select "Add-ons that have been used by
Internet Explorer" in the "Show:" drop down list)

4. You may also wish to check c:\windows\Downloaded Program Files to see if
anything is corrupted there.

5. Make sure you accepted the Microsoft Trust Certificate

6. Check security settings, make sure they are not set too high

7. Delete cookies and temp files

8. Re-register these files, by clicking Start, Run and typing:-

REGSVR32 wuapi.dll
REGSVR32 wuaueng.dll
REGSVR32 atl.dll
REGSVR32 wucltui.dll
REGSVR32 wups.dll

You should receive a successful message after each one.
Try Windows Update Again.

If that hasn’t helped you may need to re-register some more files:-

net stop cryptsvc
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
net start cryptsvc

You should receive a successful message after each one.

If necessary:-

Re-install Windows Update files

http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6...gent20-x86.exe

Note If you have an x64-based computer, visit the following Microsoft Web
site:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6...gent20-x64.exe

Click Save in the File Download-Security Warning dialog box, and then select
the location where you want to save the file.
Double-click the file that you saved

NB - A note from Torgeir Bakken [MVP]

Note that if it says "Install is not needed since Windows Update Agent is
already installed.", run the exe with the command line switch /wuforce, like
this:
WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce
