receiving code 1 and code 28 in DM

I'm having problems connecting Usb devices in my (xp pro sp2 with usb
2.0) computer. I get big yellow ? in device manager. These are just
supposed to be plugged in and go. My main problem is with HP 725
camera and an SD memory card reader. Thanks in advance
