All of a sudden my computer is doing strange things. I have taken screenshots.

1 - Whenever I reboot my computer it always goes into CHKDSK - everytime

2 - When I try using
http://www.update.microsoft.com/micr....aspx?ln=en-us

I receive the following error message:
Install the ActiveX control required to view the website
The website will not display correctly on your computer without this
control. To install it:
1. Right-click the Internet Explorer Information Bar. It's located just
below the address bar.
2. In the right-click menu, click Install ActiveX Control.
3. In the Security Warning dialog box, click Install.

I do not receive the yellow pop up menu therefore I can not install ACTIVE
X. I have followed their troubleshoorting suggestions and it didnt help. I
emailed microsoft and I received a canned response.

3 - When I try to install quickbooks - I receive an error message
Setup Quckbooks Pro 2008.exe has encountered a problem and has to close.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

4 - When I try to reinstall Office 2007
Setup did not Complete Successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I am sure there are other problems that I just havent discovered yet.

Any ideas what I can do since Microsoft doesnt seem to want to help me.

Hello Sherri,

Test this WGA diagnose test, connection to MS, that scripts working, etc.
etc.
<http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/>

These diagnostic pages will help you ensure that your Internet Explorer (6.0
or later) settings are configured properly to see images, run scripts, and
allow ActiveX controls to download and run.

Let us know what hªppens.

Well - I would like to pull my hair out - LOL

The diagnostic will not run - I get a page that says
Adjust Internet Explorer ActiveX settings
If you would like change the way Internet Explorer handles ActiveX controls:
Open Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
On the Security tab, click the Custom Level button.
Scroll down to ActiveX controls and plug-ins.
For Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls, select Enable.
Scroll down to Download signed ActiveX controls and select Enable or Prompt.
Scroll down to Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins and select Enable or Prompt.
Scroll down to Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting and select
Enable or Prompt.
Click OK to close the Security Settings dialog box.
Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box and save the changes just
made.

I follow all the instructions. Close all my open internet pages. Re-open
and try again and it still doesnt work.

If the system is running chkdsk on every boot then the issue is most
likely hardware related. If the system was manufactured by an OEM
[Dell/HP,etc] visit the manufacturer's web site to see if there are any
HardDrive testing tools available.
If you installed the HD then use the tool included on the CD that came
with the HD to test it.

It *could* also be a failing power supply that is causing bad writes to
the HD.

IF the hardware checks out OK, then what is the installed security
software [AV/firewall/etc.] ?
