Each time I click on "Express Update" it returns the error code: 0x800704DD.
I followed the recommended solutions to see if all the entries for the
registry key SensLogn were there but that key does not exist under "Notify"
and I am not able to create one under "Notify".

Anyone have some ideas on what I need to do?

(Error number: 0x800704DD)

See if the information in this MSKB article, can help you:

Error messages that you may receive when you try to download and install
updates from the Windows Update Web site, from the Microsoft Update Web site,
or from a WSUS server: "0x800704DD," "0x80240020," or both

I did look at the MSKB article and that is how I realized I was missing the
Senslogn key in my registry. I tried to add a key but it kept putting it as
a subkey to other keys not the "Notify" key.

Hi JM,

I'd recommend resubmitting your post here:

Start a help ticket.

Help and Support

http://support.microsoft.com/common/...h=1&gprid=9860

OR

I'd recommend calling 1-866-pcsafety if you are in the U.S. or Canada.

Elsewhere, call your local Microsoft subsidiary, or the number for paid
support in your locale--and ask for the free help with virus or
security-patch related issues. This help extends to spyware removal as well.

Other than that, I'm about out of ideas, so good luck with it.

Let us know maybe someone else can conjure up something else to try.

Good luck

I FOUND AN ANSWER SEE INFO BELOW. I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SHOW THIS AS CLOSED
BUT IT IS. WORKED JUST GREAT!!

From your description, I understand that when trying to perform updates, the
error code 0x800704DD is received. You find the following registry key is
missing.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn

You attempt to add a new key, but failed. If I have misunderstood your
concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.

I understand the inconvenience you have experienced. Please be assured that
I will do my best to help you.

This issue most likely occurs when the following registry key or its sub key
is missing or corrupt.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify

At this time, let's refer to the following steps to troubleshoot this issue.

Step 1: Backup the Registry

=====================

As we need to modify some registry keys to troubleshoot this issue, let’s
perform the following steps to backup the current Registry first.

1. Click "Start", click "Run", type "regedit" (without quotations), and
click "OK".

2. Select "My Computer" (the root node) in the left pane, click "Export"
under the "File" menu, choose "All" under "Export" range, select "Desktop" in
the "Save in" box, type "backup" in "File" Name, and then click "Save".

Please Note: The backup file is on the Desktop and named backup.reg. We can
simply restore the registry by double-clicking the backup.reg file. After we
have completed the troubleshooting and the issue has been resolved, we can
delete this file.

3. Close the Registry Editor.

Then, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Restore the relevant Registry Key

===============================

1. Click "Start", "Run", type: "notepad C:\fix.reg" (without quotations) and
press "Enter". Choose "Yes" when you are prompted.

2. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad
window.

I keep receiving error code 0x800704DD when I am trying to perform Windows
updates. I also find the following regisrty key is missing.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn

Of course, my attempt to add a new key failed.

I have already done the followings:

1. Backup the regisrty

2. Restoring the relevant registry key by doing these
i. click START,
ii. run NOTEPAD C:\FIX.REG,
iii. YES to save it

3. Copied and pasted all commands (except Windows Registry Editor Version
5.00) without making any changes as you wrote below.

4. Closed Notepad window and saved the file when it is prompted.

5. Run the commands
i. click START,
ii. run C:\FIX.REG,
iii. no dialog box poped-up (just notepad file is opened).

6. Rebooted the machine

7. Test the Windows update (result is still the same error code 0x800704DD
came up)

8. Checked the keys and found that there is no subkeys under NOTIFY.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify

There is nothing in NOTIFY key.

Please help and thanks in advance.
