I recently set up Win Live Mail, after buildiing a new computer with Win 7 on
it. I use Comcast as my mail client and with xp never had any issues. I set
up Live w/ Comcast and all SEEMED well. Today I am away so I used my laptop
to log into comcast.net and have 144 new messages, some dating back to two
weeks ago. Some of these messages I have received in Live, read and deleted
but most haven't made it to Live. Any ideas?

Thanks Ed

Comcast is an ISP, not an email client. Windows Live Mail (among others) is
an email client.

Nothing I can think of. If the Comcast mail servers were normal, I might
have an idea. But Comcast has moved everybody to something called,
"SmartZone". It would take a Comcast insider to understand all the user
options offered, and which do what when enabled, or disabled. I am not a
Comcast customer.

With an ordinary server, I'd guess that the messages not downloaded were
somehow marked by Windows Live Mail has having been downloaded. Or the
database which keeps track of what has been downloaded is FUBAR.

I don't really understand your reference to Live w/Comcast. Are
you using Windows Live Mail to download your Comcast messages
from the Comcast POP3 server? The following instructions only
apply to POP3 mail accounts.

The operating system on your old computer was Win XP, so I
suspect your previous mail client was Outlook Express. There are
similarities between OE and WLMail. However, the default
settings are not the same and ther is a fundamental difference
with the way WLMail receives messages from a POP3 server.

After Outlook Express has downloaded a message, it deletes it
from the server. By default, WLMail leaves a copy of the message
on the server.

If that is the cause of your problem, open WLMail. If the menu
bar is hidden, press the Alt key to reveal the menu bar. Then,
click on Tools / Accounts and select the name of the Comcast
account. Click on Properties and select the Advanced Tab.
Remove the check from the box marked "Leave a copy of Messages on
server" and save your changes. Thereafter, WLMail will function
like Outlook Express.
