recent download of media player11

ive been using my cd/dvd player/burner just fine. but i downloaded the new
media player11, and ever since, it dosen't recognize my cd/dvd player/burner.
it claims it isnt pluged in when i troubleshooted it online. but i know it
is. what could have happened??? please help
