On the start menu my recent itmes are empty. Additionally, when I'm in an
application like word or excel it no longer lists my recent documents. I've
gone through the postings and tried some different suggestions (including
checking store and display under privacy in start menu properties and showing
a set number of items). Went through the registry (startmenuInit) and I have
3 as the value. The recent items folder is a special folder, not plain
vanilla. There was one thread from "dean-dean" that spoke to user accounts
and seemed helpful but I wasnt able to completely follow. I am always logged
in as an Administrator if that helps. Thanks and although it may not seem
like a major problem, it certainly has slowed me down greatly.

The "Most recently used" list is missing from the File menu, and the "Recently used file list" option is unavailable in Office XP and in Office 2003:

Thanks, Ramesh but I am using Vista and do not think I have Tweak UI. I did
buy a program called Tweak VI which caused a lot pf problems and I
uninstalled. Could this be my problem and any idea how to fix? Thanks.

Mike,

Yes, that could be the problem. See "More Information" part in that article that I linked to. You need to delete the "NoRecentDocsHistory" registry values.
