We had a microsoft update yesterday, and now we cannot access the internet.
Our 2 laptops that have a wireless connection are working fine, but the
computer that had the update, will not access websites or get e-mail. I can
ping sites just fine, and there is an IP address, but when I try to ping the
computer's IP address from one of our functioning laptops, there is no reply.
The computer tells me it is connected, and I have reset the modem and
restarted the computer multiple times. Anyone else having similar problems?

I am having the same problem. It continues to update and each time it
disables internet access. I've restored my system both times to fix the
problem but obviously I don't want to have to do this on a daily basis.
Anyone know what is going on or how to fix the problem?

Yes, I had a similar problem. On the evening of 7-8-2008 I installed the
Windows update KB951748. At about the time I was doing an install, I also
received a notice from Zone Labs that my Zone Alarm subscription was expiring
in 29 days. At the time I didn't realize that I had no internet access. The
morning of 7-9-2008, it was apparent I had no internet access. After testing
my network connection (there was none), and power cycling my cable modem, I
shut down my Zone Alarm firewall. I was able to get out on the internet. I
renewed my subscription to the Zone Alarm firewall. Still, I was not able to
access the internet with the Zone Alarm firewall running. I uninstalled
Windows update KB951748 and I am now able to access the internet with the
Zone Alarm firewall running. I will be contacting Microsoft and Zone Alarm
about my situation with this security update. This happened on a computer
running Windows XP Media Edition service pack 2.

Same on two of my laptops, finally just uninstalled the update and am
currently running with automatic updates 'off'. I also run ZoneAlarm and even
turned it off and that had no effect. I also run Norton and Ad-Aware.

Just went to the Zone Alarm website and they have posted an upgrade for their
firewall which is supposed to take care of the problem.
http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cessIssue.html
Hope this helps.

I have not installed the new version of Zone Alarm. I just wanted to make
everyone aware of the Zone Alarm forum about this issue
http://forums.zonealarm.org/zonelabs...ssage.id=34200
Apparently, someone still had problems after doing the update and someone
else did not have any problems. I will probably not install the update until
later today.

Same problem here. Went into Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, found the
Microsoft Update which was installed on July 9, 2008 and REMOVED it. Since
the yellow shield showing Microsoft Updates waiting to be installed was still
in my system tray, I right clicked on it and selected CUSTOM install. When
the update came up, I unchecked it as I do NOT want it installed. Voila,
Microsoft Updates went away from my systray and I don't have to mess with
this update. I also ensured that Automatic Updates in my Control Panel is
set to "Notify me of updates but do not download or install automatically".
That way I can decide myself if it's something I want on my computer.

The link
http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cessIssue.html
Does not contain a download for an upgrade version. All it has is two
workarounds, one of which is just plain stupid, which is to lower your
security settings so the security update won't disable your browsing.

The other "fix" is to uninstall the update. I figured that one out on my
own, otherwise I wouldn't be able to see their useless "fix" page.

I have seen a later version of ZA referred to but cannot locate it.
