Windows Vista what?

Assuming 32bit Vista - You have these drivers?
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...635378&lang=en

Don't get drivers from Microsoft for your HP product. Microsoft did not
make it, Microsoft does not support it.

Windows Update error 80070103
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...dabcd1033.mspx
You receive error 0x80070103 when you use the Windows Update or Microsoft
Update Web sites to install updates
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952032

So you should reinstall your original HP Office Jet j6480 drivers from the
disk that came with the printer and if an update is required, get it from
HP.

Nice to know (and is something you might want to mention in the futre,
should you have other issues to ask about. *grin*) - changes only the exact
drivers from HP you should get...

Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit) for HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One Printer
(Release Date: 07-2008)
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...roduct=3635378

The advice remains the same. If you are getting these drivers from soething
Microsoft is offering - stop. Get your drivers direct from those who
actually support the product and then any problems you have should likely
first be directed to those supporting said product. ;-)

I have 64-bit Vista Ultimate (SP1) and I have the same problem with my HP
Officejet j6480 drivers as well.

The MS-MVP's response is disappointing and completely without substance.
Windows Update is what is constantly nagging me to update (ever since I
installed the printer) -- the HP drivers are fine.

There's also no way that I've found to "hide" this particular update...

The problem is that the HP driver itself and whatever magic is happening
behind the scenes during this attempted driver update are not working
together. To clarify.

On another note (before someone suggests it) I cannot just plug in the
printer via USB and have it auto-install drivers the first time because I am
using this networked on the other side of the office.

Since this is our remote office printer it was installed "manually" by
creating the proper Printer Port (TCP/IP) and then installing the drivers.
The printer is actually on a different subnet and cannot be detected via the
HP software on the disk. I don't think that this setup is an unusual
situation for road warriors.

Just to clarify ... my HP OfficeJet 6480 is working fine other than Vista
nagging me to update the drivers... but there are no newer drivers on HP's
site (last update September 22nd, 2008) since I used the drivers off their
site to install the printer in first place in October with the Thai update
(which I will didn't really need...)

Exactly! So, MS, how do we get rid of this update?!? As someone else
mentioned, it can't be hidden (no plus sign to click and hide) and it's
annoying to have it run every time I turn off my computer.

If you're running Vista you can hide the HP driver update by opening the
Windows Update applet in Control Panel.
Click the ' 1 optional updates are available' link. [It may state more
than one depending upon what is being offered]

*Right* click the HP driver update and choose Hide update.
Click OK.
Close Windows Update.
Voila, it's hidden.
