I am using Windows 7 Ultimate Media Center to record some of my favorite tv
shows so I can watch them at another time.

Traditionaly, I used the software that came with the Tuner Card to record
and edit out the commercials.

MC records to a .wtv format.

Is there an appliation I can use to edit this format???

If not, can I convert it to .wmv and is there a program to edit that with???

If I can't do either of those is there an app I can convert it to .mpg
format???

Or does someone have a solution to recommend different that anything above???

Thank you,

I haven't tried it yet, but see the post below. If this works for you, pls
post back.

====Well it looks like my problems have been solved, now that Microsoft has
released the full version of Windows Live Movie Maker.

====All I need to do is:
- Right click the .WTV file (in Windows 7) and select "Convert to
DVR-MS"
- Import the newly-created DVR-MS into Windows Live Movie Maker,
edit, and export as desired

Right clicking a WTV file only gives you the option to convert it to DVR-MS
if the native file is actually an MPEG2 file since all DVR-MS files actually
contained MPEG2 files. If the WTV file contains another file type such as
an H.264 file it can not be converted to a DVR-MS file by right clicking it

I read the quoted post to say that Windows Live MM would allow editing out
commercials after converting wtv to dvr-ms. Do you know if this is true?
If so, no further conversion would be required to do what the original
poster says he wants to do.

According to the MS sites, WLMM supports "Microsoft Recorded TV Programs" in
both Vista and Windows 7. To me that says dvr-ms and wtv. So I guess that
it would be possible to edit out commercials from Media Center TV. How
easy? Not sure about that.

Sorry it took so long to get back to this.

First of all you need the file you are going to work on on your hard drive.
It appears WLMM does not like to work on network drives. Not an issue.

Right-click on the .wtv file and select "Convert to DVR-MS. Worked like a
charm. Slow, but that was expected.

Did a drag & drop of the .DVR-MS into WLMM. Much easier to work with than
my previous app. It took a little bit to figure out how to work WLMM but I
thing I got most of it. After you are done editing do a "Save Movie".

It saves it to a .wmv file.

You can also drop a .mpg file into WLMM.

Thank again guys.
