Media Player doesn't support it and wee cannot recommend any program as it
may violate copyright restrictions.

If the functionality exists, it will be in third party software and you'll
need to search the internet or hope that some helpful person can give you
examples that they're familiar and happy with.

I have used Windows Media Encoder to do this in the past... and just tried
it again with various sources
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.mspx

Set it capture audio from your soundcard (in my case the stereo mixer), then
choose save to file, select the audio quality, name the session etc, and you
are off... Save the settings and you can reuse it again... remember it will
reuse the previous output file, but you can change that in the session
settings each time if you wish...

Audacity (free, open source) or Total Recorder.

It depends on the radio station format.

One simple way is to buy a 3.5mm phono cable with a plug at both ends.

Connect the Line Out which would usually go to the speakers, to the
Line In socket of your sound card (i.e on the same PC). Then use
software like Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ to record the
now-analog audio coming in on the Line In socket, to an MP3 format.

A somewhat better way is to still use Audacity, but follow the
instructions here (which work with most modern sound cards)
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help...ng&i=streaming
to record the Stereo Mix from the sound card - in that case, you don't
need a cable (because you're recording the sound card's internal
signal) and you'll be able to hear (monitor) the audio as it's being
recorded

I have downloaded Audacity and have been trying to record satellite radio on
my computer. When I try to do the "Stereo Mix" option for direct recording, I
can't find that option. All I have is an option for "in line" or
"microphone". I have followed the directions by Audacity to unlock the
"stereo mix" option, but can't find that option when I locate the "in line"
and "microphone" setups. Do I have to upgrade my sound card to get those
option?
Thank you in advance to anyone who has an answer.

The volume control panel has several settings which might be hidden by
default. Go to the volume control -> Options -> Properties and Adjust
volume for Playback.

Make sure Stereo mix is ticked in the list under "show the following
controls"

I guess it's possible with old or very cheap, or maybe built-in sound
systems that there's no stereo mix - in that case you'd have to loop a
cable from the line-out to the line-in of the sound card, and record
in Analog selecting line-in source instead.
