Recovering from Sleep

As many other here, I too am experiencing problems with Sleep. I read many of
the posts here, but didn't find an answer that applied directly to my case.
Resuming my laptop (brand new, Business Vista, 1022MB RAM, 32-bit OS) from
Sleep mode almost always results in my computer restarting, no matter how I
achieve "sleep" (from the gadgets toolbar, from the start menu, or voice
activation). I sometimes get a black screen with white fonts asking me how I
want to resume my computer.
Thinking that maybe one of the sotfwares I installed on my computer is the
cause of this, I added and deleted groups of programs from the startup menu,
but I don't think that's the cause of this. Finally, closing and opening
the lid never changes anything - in fact, I was never able to resume to the
computer from its sleep mode by opening the lid, although it is supposed to
according to the settings...

any help? it's really frustrating...
thanks,
Amir

Even though it's a new PC have you checked the vendor's website
for patches & updated drivers ? One thing that's common is for a
new product to have issues resolved by a BIOS firmware update.
You may want to check the support site and see if a new(er) BIOS
flash module is available. If so, it's good to read the update notes &
check for any mention of fixes for Sleep states.
Some drivers/apps can interfere with "Sleep/Resume" - so you need
to ensure that everything is up to date. ( Especially, NIC & Video ).
One helpful thing to do is check the System & Application event
logs and check for errors. If the machine is logging errors then those
would need to be resolved to get a reliable working state.

Try these two new updates;

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941600
Cumulative update rollup for USB core components in Windows Vista

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941649
An update is available that improves the compatibility, reliability, and stability of Windows Vista

Thanks for your reply. I spent this morning updating the BIOS for my
computer. I now have the most updated version of the glash module.
Unfortunately, the last attempt to recover from "sleep" resulted, again, in
my computer restarting, after I get a screen saying that the computer failed
to do something properly, and I am then given the options to restart in safe
mode, normally, and so forth.

any suggestions?
thanks,
Amir

Thanks again. But the problem persists. Here is some more info - the screen I
got this morning when my computer again did not properly recover from sleep:

windows resume loader

The last attempt to resume the system from its previous location failed.
Attempt to resume again?
-continue with system resume
-delete restoration data...

any ideas?

Hi Michael,

I had a chance to try the two links you sent - when I attempted this one
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941600 Cumulative update rollup for USB
core components in Windows Vista), I got a message that it was irrelevant for
my system. I only have 1GB Ram, if that's relevant.

thanks for the help
