In a new Dell XPS computer with Vista Business edition, will the recovery
console program already be installed or will I have to install it as we did
with windows XP Pro? If I have to install this program, would very much
appreciate where to find the program and how to install it. Thanks for any
help, Sam.

Philo, Many thanks for your information. I have ordered two Vista books
from Amazon and hope they arrive soon. Have a good weekend, Sam.

Once you have SP1 installed, everybody can make a WinRE (Recovery
Environment) disc.

ss,

Unfortunately, one can't. That option was removed from the RTM of SP1. I'm
not exactly sure why.

That's ridiculous. With all the criticism about Vista users that have OEM
editions that were supplied with their new computers (ie. the vast majority
of Vista users) not being able to use WinRE, I cannot imagine why they would
have done such a thing.

For security reasons I would suspect - and by that I mean the security of
their own product, not that of the user. Some people might be tempted to use
WinRE for purposes other than those they intended (*tut tut*)eg for
bypassing the security on protected registry keys etc.

If someone is really keen, then they can create one by downloading the WAIK,
from which it's possible to create a better recovery disc - ie one that's
also stripped of superfluous questions about which language you wish to use
today or unnecessary repair checks before you can finally get to a command
prompt.
