Is there a recovery console in Vista? If so, How do you install it? Is the
Starup the sane thing? Can it be installed other than uses it from the disk?
Thanks

Thank you for the prompt response.
Among the many pages I read, is the one you advice, Yet..
"The System Recovery Options menu is on the Windows installation disc. The
menu might also be installed on your hard disk if your computer has
preinstalled recovery options."
No where it tell me how to install it, as in the all one X:\i386\winnt32.exe
/cmdcons.
I have clean installed Vista on new hard disk, rather than over XP, which
hard disk had preinstalled portions on a reserved partition, that I do not
have now. At any rate, the Console directory was always in the main
partition.
Hopefully you have further advice.
Cheers

No.

'Repair your Computer link' when you boot the Vista DVD. This takes
you to some useful tools.

I think the idea was that if you can boot from the HD or into Safe
Mode you can fix things from there.

Hi Dr Rolando E Creagh

The Recovery Console is only available from a Express or retail Vist
installation DVD. This will show you how to get to and use it

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/91...tup-repair.htm

If you only have a OEM Vista Recovery DVD or Recovery Partition on you
hard drive, then it may not be available to you. However, this will sho
you how to create a Recovery DVD of your own anyway to use to hel
repair Vista with

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/14...overy-disc.htm

Hope this helps

Hello,
Download and install the Windows AIK,
The documentation as well as the tools needed to this are included with
that.
Thanks,

Hello Rolando,

The procedure to install WinRE (the recovery console) is not
straightforward, and is usually done by the OEM/System Builder. It requires
the WAIK (Windows Automated Installation Kit), and a technician computer on
which to build the necessary images that will then be installed onto the end
user pc.

See here for a guide:
