Hi,

Windows update failed to complete successfully leaving me with a PC that
reboots its self randomly usually within 2 to 5 minutes of logging on to any
user.

Any ideas on recovering back to a stable position.

I tried a system restore back to prior to the update but that has not
resovled the problem.

i have tried booting in safe mode but the PC is still unstable.

I have put the hard drive into another PC which causes that one to exhibit
the same problems!!

Any thoughts?

Andy,

Did the restore process complete successfully or was there an error
message ? It would be best to boot to Safe Mode, log on as Admin, and
then attempt to uninstall all of the updates from Add/Remove Programs in
the Control Panel. This may not be possible if the system was rolled
back to just before the updates were installed.

It sounds as if there is a driver issue. Were any of the updates that
were installed driver updates ? If so, in Safe Mode, right click My
Computer, choose Manage, then open Device Manager. If there are any
problematic devices showing suggest that you roll back the driver for
said device :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306546/

If none of the above applies, then contact MS via this link and explain
the issue : http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...spx?Gprid=6527

Hi,

the restore did complete successfully but the PC is not stable enoough to go
into control panel to then remove anything.

As I run the windows updates automatically I am not aware of what was
downloaded.

Any other thought.

Can I re install windows from CD without loosing my own data??

Are there any other ways XP can recover itself?
