I have a customer that due to another provider's negligence I need to rebuild
a new system for SBS 2003 R2. The old server name was profane and the
customer wants it renamed. We will be deploying a new server (different
hardware) and need to know if it is possible to bring the mail store and user
accounts over to the new server.

Example: CURRENT SERVER: EATME_SRV
NEW SERVER: SRV-SBS2003

Hi John:

What a Bother....

User accounts will not be applied to a new domain. You must recreate them
and the computer accounts. Then disjoin the workstations from the existing
domain and rejoin the new.

For exchange, how big are the mailboxes? Exmerge if under 2 GB, copy to
..pst if over 2 GB. either will work.

I strongly encourage you to use a domain name like COMPANY.LOCAL. You
might not want to use something that identifies the server OS in the
name as the server name can show in the headers of email unless you re-
write it by proxy/firewall proxy.
