Recurring Update for Windows XP (KB900485)

Have successfully updated my PC with the Windows XP (KB900485) update via the
MS Windows Update web site. The update is successful, however (for several
weeks) it reappears in the High-priority list to be installed. Have installed
it multi-times, from both user ids on my multi-user config, uninstalled
KB900485 and re-installed and downloaded & installed the file from
support.microsoft.com.

PC Config:
Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Dell Dimension DIM4700
Pentium 4 CPU 2.8 GHz
512 MB RAM

Is there a way to manually correct the problem, install it so it doesn't
consistently reappear or I am stuck with just hiding the update I know has
been successfully installed?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

How to troubleshoot Windows Update or Microsoft Update when you are repeatedly
offered an update
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910339

Windows Update already installed

Windows Update says the update is still needed

Copy the new "aec.sys" over the old one.
The new version is 5.1.2601.2180
The old version is 5.1.2601.2078

Copy the one from "C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB900485\SP2QFE" or "C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386"
to
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers"

Thanks, the information was interesting however it did not resolve the
problem despite following all the steps.

The "Unk" response did resolve the problem.

Thanks again.

This simple little process to manually copy the file resolved the problem of
the "update" reappearing for installation.

Thanks for the help.
